Disincarnate

Arguably one of the best guitarists to grace the death metal scene of the early 90s was Mr. James Murphy. He played on a number of groundbreaking records such as Cancers - Death Shall Rise, Death - Spiritual Healing (1990), Obituary - Cause of Death (1990), and 3 Testament cd's between 94 to 99.

His own project Disincarnate, released Dreams of the Carrion Kind in 1993. The album was chocked full of trademark Murphy guitar work and showcases that he could in fact stand alone and put out a great record. Extremely chunky riffs, no shortage of harmonics and sweeping, shredding leads it is a must hear.

Not content with playing, James got into the production side of making music. He has mastered no fewer than fifteen albums since the late 90s. It was revealed that James had a brain tumor in 2001 and he was forced to drop everything and undergo aggressive treatment. Here is an interview he gave to Abrasive Rock dated 8-2-04 in which he discusses his treatment process and the (still) upcoming Death Tribute Album. More info is available at his site here.

In late 2007, it was reported James was beginning work on the second Disincarnate album however no time frame for the project was announced.
